Finding Restful Sleep

It is 9:08 AM and I just woke up. That is very uncommon because for the last two years I have been waking up predawn sometime around 5:45 in the morning and unless I party pretty hard I’m not sleeping solidly through the night. My mother says it’s hormonal changes I often think that it’s just that I fall asleep a little bit too early. I find myself tossing and turning between 5 AM and 7 AM. This morning I woke up when my honey went to work, and I was up for about an hour at about 7:00. Normally it’s difficult for me to go back to sleep once I have woken up. Today (i will admit is is a morning spring rain out there) falling back asleep was not a problem. Two hours later and I am still just coming back to this world. Yesterday was similar, except, I slept until 10 AM uninterrupted. This is really unheard of.

Last night and the night before, I had the most restful deep comfortable yummy sleeps I have had in a long time. And, I had some pretty nice dreams.

So what am I doing differently that might be affording me such luxury asleep? Because I really, I must call it luxurious.

I recently read somewhere that frankincense intensifies and enhances the energy of some of oils that one might be using. For the last two nights I’ve done something very different than I had been doing in the past. First, I rubbed a little bit of a calming essential oil blend (of lavender, sweet marjoram, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, sandalwood and vanilla bean)  on my feet and on my ears. Then I followed up the application on my ears with an application of frankincense. I was left with a combination of both that I breathed in from my hands. This combination, which is a blend I would expect to support rest, and frankincense, may have been a support when reaching for both soothing and restful deep sleep.

I wonder if you have some tricks for supporting restful times…
